This is a remix I recently did for the amazing band Valravn from Copenhagen, Denmark. There remix album comes out in Feb 2011, but they were kind enough to allow me to share it early. This band really reminds me a lot of Nordic version my Niyaz band. Valravn’s singer sounds a lot like Bjork, she is singing in Faroese, the language of the Faroe Islands, melody style is inspired by Faroese and Icelandic traditional themes. The title means “Gone without being away”. I was told Faroe Islands have an history of many men that died on the sea, entire villages decimated of their male population, big sorrow and strong confrontation with the nature forces and “God”. So the song is a tribute to the ones gone, but not completely gone. I really love this band and hope you enjoy!Valraven- Carmen Rizzo Remix “Farin Uttan At Verða Yekk” (Gone without being away) by carmenrizzo
I am currently remixing the Danish band Valravn. I absolutely love this band. They remind me of a Nordic version of my Niyaz band. The singer Anna Katrin Egilstrøð is from the Faroe Islands, and sings with in Faroese and Icelantic traditional themes. Her voice is amazing! Will post the mix very soon. Stay tuned…
During my month stay in Europe to record, I went to Sarajevo, Bosnia to DJ the Sarajevo FIlm Festival. What a wonderful country with lovely warm hearted people!
My third album “Looking Through Leaves” will be out May 11, 2010 exclusively on Itunes. The album features the amazing & talented Grant Lee Phillips, Shana Halligan, Kate Havnivik, Rosey, January Thompson & Valente Bertelli. A much darker and minimal album than my past albums. Really hope you enjoy it. You can pre order it from itunes here.
I am putting the finishing touches on my new album and will be mastering the album next week. Once it is gift wrapped I will post all the details and new music. Very happy with the music. A dark but warm and fuzzy album very different from my last 2 albums, new vocalist, more instrumentals and a lovely floating landscape that goes right for the soul.
Back in my studio making music with my dear friend Jamie Muhoberac. Stay tuned, my solo album is almost done. Many new projects on my plate as well as mixing the new Earth Wind & Fire maestro Philip Bailey’s solo record. Europe I miss your beauty and simplicity.
Excited to see The Who play Quadrophenia last night at Royal Albert Hall in London! Was amazing, live horns, strings full band. Really grateful to have attended, Thanks Pete for the invite, great to see you after as well. Off to Los Angeles today…
Time has not been on my side lately with all this traveling, but the 3 days I have been in town I have been getting a lot done on my album titled “Looking through leaves”. I worked with Valente Bertelli putting some wonderful background vocals on the track I did with Shana from Bittersweet. Today The master Grant Lee Phillips comes in. Almost there..:)
Huun Huur Tu and I finished rehearsing yesterday for our 6 city tour of North America and were welcomed by a lovely rainbow towering over Hollywood. This was taken from the roof top of my studio.
My Electrofone Music label has a new release this week, Gabriel Johnson-”Fra_ctured”. Think Squarepusher meets Jon Hassell. Love this album! Check it out here.
Well I finally had a chance to block some time a side over the holiday break to put some valuable time into writing and recording my album. I am hoping on finishing late January. Jem will be singing in the few weeks I am happy to announce as well as one of surprise I will announce later. The album is turning into more of a instrumental album which is what I wanted as well as much darker musically then my other two albums. Happy New Years to all and am anxious to start 2010!
